Blogging for Change and a free dyson

one-vote-gradient-gradient12.jpg

Every day I wake up and I want to write about the election.

Every day I want to post you tube videos of Sarah Palin scaring the hell out of me.

Every day I want to give homage to John Stewart or post drafts of my hate mail to Karl Rove.

But I know for sure it’s no longer enough.

I want to do more than add my voice to the millions of Americans crying out for change.

I want to be an agent of that change.  I want to make a difference.

Talking about it is no longer enough!

Writing about it is no longer enough!

Leaving it to others is no longer enough!

In 2000, when we elected ‘experience’, my vote wasn’t enough.

In 2004, when we elected ‘experience’, my vote wasn’t enough.

This time I’m not just voting for intelligence.

This time I’m not just voting for integrity.

This time I’m not just voting for bold initiative.

This time I’m working for the campaign.  I’m a member of my local volunteer team.

BECAUSE ONE VOTE IS NO LONGER ENOUGH!

We do not have enough volunteers.  We need more people to register voters, to persuade, to get out the vote.

It’s actually a lot of fun and I’ve met some amazing people.

Just two hours a week can make a difference.

You can sign up to volunteer here.

You can find your local volunteer coordinator here.  Even better, go here.

YOU CAN REGISTER TO VOTE AND HELP YOUR READERS REGISTER ON-LINE BY WRITING ABOUT VoteForChange.com.  Time is running out!

Or e-mail me at meg[at]simplynutmeg[dot]com and I’ll get you connected with the right person.

Please join me in spreading this No Longer Enough campaign:

Please publish this post or write your own post and link to it on your blog and spread the word to your readers, even if you can’t volunteer.  Many of us just need a little push (someone approached me at the grocery store) to get in the game.

Just think; if every Blogger recruited just one volunteer…

Maybe we’re what we’ve been waiting for.

And here’s where I put my money where my mouth is:

If you join in spreading the word, publish this post, or write your own post with a link, sign the Mr. Linky below.  If I get 200 links or more before October 10th, I’ll use a random number generator to choose a winner, and I’ll give away one brand new Dyson.

Because my one vote is no longer enough.

Digg!

Also their link to Code Pink, a little wild, but does lots of political advocacy in the Philly area and the world. I’m a pinkie…;-)

I am a volunteer for Obama as well. I don’t think people realize how important it is to join their local team. It was largely Hillary’s volunteers who brought her 8 million votes when her campaign funds were gone. I worked for her and now she and I are both chipping in to work for Obama and Biden. The Obama campaign has the money but we need volunteers to put that money to the best use. If you can’t volunteer, consider donating supplies to your local volunteer team.

Thank you, Nutmeg for helping to spread the word.

I too am all for voting more than once!

  5. barb September 22nd, 2008 2:34 pm

Okay I’m game. I’ll post something like this. I’ve been meaning to volunteer in other ways too, like going down to the AFL-CIO building and participating in their phone bank thing. Never done anything like this before but you’re right Obama’s worth it! good luck and thanks for the motivation

Way to go ladies. If you want to see how important volunteer campaigning is in your own state go to http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/president/battleground.html.

  7. Natalie September 22nd, 2008 4:36 pm

I’m not sure that I can actually go out and volunteer, but I will look into doing what I can. You’re right, writing about it is not enough.

  8. tiddleywink September 22nd, 2008 6:35 pm

More people follow me on Twitter than read my blog, so I tweeted it! Your post is eloquent, and I’m going to click over to the Volunteer page right now.

  9. Gmac September 22nd, 2008 6:36 pm

Well, I can’t say that it motivated me to get up off my rear and do something…but don’t misinterpret. I did follow the link to volunteer. I just didn’t get off my butt to do it! Thanks Meg!

  10. magpie September 22nd, 2008 8:25 pm

I want to vote so damned many times.

  11. magpie September 22nd, 2008 8:28 pm

  12. Jenny, Bloggess September 23rd, 2008 6:43 am

This post inspired me to register to vote. Unless it’s too late.

    God, I’m pathetic.

  13. samantha jo campen September 23rd, 2008 9:22 am

I’m totally down. My hubby is volunteering in the Obama office a few days a week so we’re well on our way, but you’re right. We need more!!!

  14. amanda September 23rd, 2008 12:04 pm

A day late, but I did it! Pink cast and all.

  15. Nutmeg September 23rd, 2008 12:46 pm

No such thing as late on this one! Oh. Yes there is. October 15th! Thanks, Amanda!

  16. mrs.chicken September 23rd, 2008 4:29 pm

I can’t volunteer this year (baby, preschooler, work, OY), but I can write and urge someone else to do so. My area is rife with bloggers and I get recognized everywhere I go from CAC. I will urge them to get out and rock the registration drive, even if I can’t. Look for my post tomorrow.

  17. maggie, dammit September 23rd, 2008 5:37 pm

This is awesome, darlin’. I went to see him speak, the first time I’ve ever gone to any sort of political rally — does that count?? Gah, I know it doesn’t.

Great Job!! I copied your post and put it on my blog this evening. I’ve got Obama Mama stickers and shirts at my cafe press site. Yes We CAN!

  28. Painted Maypole September 26th, 2008 9:14 am

just yesterday someone called me from the local Obama office, and I want to talk to them some more about what I could do… I’ve never volunteered for a campaign before, so I’m very new and a bit nervous, but I am feeling like I need to do a bit more (even more than putting the magnet on my car, which is also a first for me. and if my button EVER arrives from movon.org, I’ll wear that, too)

  29. April September 26th, 2008 11:23 am

Kudos to you for joining the campaign!

  30. ilinap September 26th, 2008 2:17 pm

I am stark raving mad (as in crazy *and* pissed). Here’s a post I write this week about simple things we can, and should, all do for Obama. Take a look here. http://www.dirtandnoise.com/2008/09/yes-we-can-yes-we-should.html

  31. Kitrona September 27th, 2008 10:26 pm

I hope my post is good enough… I really believe in Obama, but sometimes the words I want just don’t come. But I think we need Obama.

  32. hanlie September 29th, 2008 4:58 am

Well done for taking this initiative, Meg! And well done to everyone who’s joining you in this… I agree 100% with you and wish I could help elect Obama!

  36. Merrily Down The Stream October 15th, 2008 10:25 am

You took the words right out of my mouth. My FB page is a one woman war against Sara Palin. Did host a fundraiser ‘ Women For Obama Band Together’. I’m all over it!

  37. Bennie October 22nd, 2008 2:05 pm

I’m posting a link as well. Since I’m leaving to go out of town tomorrow I have it scheduled to automatically post on Friday 10-24. Thanks for doing this.
