Filch It Friday: The Times They are a Changin’
Welcome to the very first round of Filch It Friday! If you are a filcher like me, it’s time for you to come out and play!

Greeblemonkey wrote a post last week that took my breath away and I just had to filch it. She admitted to being 5 to 10% gay and she outed my new candidate for President of the Assholery, Sally Kern, an elected representative in the Oklahoma legislature. If you haven’t already heard her sickening spew, please take a moment to be one of the millions who is listening:
My first response to this woman, who has so embraced hatred, was bitter hatred right back; and then I remembered what I recently learned from Horton who offered the nasty Kangaroo lady (named Sally) a cookie, and it hit me how very sad and troubled hate mongers really are. I am pretty damn sure that in her darkest hour, when she allows herself to lurk in Satin’s Land of Sexual Fantasy, the repressed and shameful Kern imagines herself doing things with women. (Okay, that wasn’t exactly a cookie, but…)
Sally Kern is certainly not the only one standing before us spreading fear and hatred, but she is finally standing before an angry and listening mob. In the listening I’ve been feeling a subtle shift in the tides, a fresh breeze that excites me and gives me hope. I feel its strength in a wave and a thumbs up. I hear it whistling through every word of a speech that, no matter what happens in November, will never be forgotten. I feel it brush my neck when I read Greeblemonkey’s post. I hear the deep longing for it in Nathan’s voice after his day at Dachau, Germany.
I want to do more than listen.
Listening is no longer enough.
We need to turn that breeze into a storm, and this is where we can all make a difference:

And since we can’t hate the haters I forgive you Sally Kern, because again, to quote Horton, a person is a person no matter how small.
You can learn all about Filch It Friday and how to participate here.Comments are off today because they’re not working! (I will not hate Wordpress.)

Intolerance and hate speech make my skin crawl! I’m not only saddened and outraged that she said this, but also that she believes this. And there are many more like her.
Thanks for highlighting this! I’m filching your movie title quiz!
[...] The delectable Meg of Simply Nutmeg has launched a Filching Carnival! What this means is that you can steal any post from anybody, as long as you link back to them and give them credit. (I’ve been doing this for a long time, but now it’s ALLOWED!). The idea is to write your own version of the post, kind of like a meme. [...]
Wow - that legislator is v disturbing!! Thanks for posting this. I lived in VT a long time and would always see this bumper sticker: “HATE is NOT a family value.” So true. Thanks for getting your kids involved! Spread love!
